Promising future for new management

Hilbert Klop has acquired Jan van den Adel’s share in Direct Source International (DSI Group). After over 35 years in the fresh produce sector and 14 years at DSI, Van den Adel is now setting his sights on a different path.

The core activity of the DSI Group is Direct Source International (DSI), which supplies fresh fruit worldwide all year round. The company specialises in citrus and grapes, but also supplies avocado, kiwi, dates and other fruits. The group develops various other activities in the sector, including the year-round supply of fresh fruit to the Middle East and Asia through Global Fresh International (GFI).

New chapter for Van den Adel

The DSI Group was founded by Van del Adel, together with Marnix van Fraassen and Jan de Sterke. “We wanted to do things differently, better. We wanted to do business together with growers, suppliers and buyers based on respect and jointly setting goals and developing concepts.” Consistent with this philosophy, the company has grown to become a leading supplier in the sector. Van den Adel has always put his heart and soul into the business and has been especially active in sales, retail and sourcing in India and Italy. “I was very excited to become part of the group and look back on a fulfilling and successful experience.” The moment has now come for a new chapter in his life. He feels it is the right time to make this decision and shift the balance more towards the life side of the equation.

Ready for the future

Managing director Hilbert Klop and founder Marnix van Fraassen have been at the helm of both the DSI Group and DSI for many years now, so the takeover is a logical step for both the company and Klop personally. “This takeover is important for safeguarding the continuity of the DSI Group and DSI. We face lots of opportunities, though also a great deal of challenges, each and every day. Our professional and motivated team is ready for the future, which is essential in this market,” says Klop.

Together with Jan de Sterke and Marnix van Fraassen, Hilbert Klop is now part of the new group of owners of the DSI Group. The organisation has also been working for several years with the young commercial management team on procurement as a shareholder in its largest business activity, Direct Source International, in which Arco Verweij has also been involved as a shareholder for a number of years. The company plans to continue along the same path in the years ahead! With substantial sales in Europe, the ambitious and young management team has an excellent foundation for the future.
